The CASA Volunteer Trainer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering high-quality training for Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers in the 7th Judicial District. This role ensures that all volunteers are well-prepared to advocate effectively for children in the child welfare system by providing initial pre-service training, ongoing continuing education, and specialized learning opportunities. The Volunteer Trainer works closely with CASA staff to align training with national standards, local program needs, and best practices in child welfare.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, coordinate, and facilitate CASA pre-service training sessions for new volunteers.
- Provide ongoing in-service training and continuing education opportunities.
- Use a variety of training methods (presentations, discussions, role plays, e-learning modules) to meet different learning styles.
- Ensure training curriculum aligns with National CASA/GAL Association standards and local program requirements.
- Evaluate volunteer knowledge, skills, and readiness to serve prior to case assignment.
- Develop and update training curriculum, materials, and resources to reflect current child welfare practices, trauma-informed care, and cultural competency.
- Incorporate feedback from volunteers, staff, and the court system to continuously improve training content.
- Stay current on child welfare laws, court procedures, and advocacy best practices to maintain training relevance.
- Provide guidance and support to volunteers during and after training.
- Assess volunteer performance and make recommendations for case readiness or additional support.
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure volunteers transition smoothly from training to case assignment.
- Build relationships with community partners, professionals, and guest speakers to enhance training sessions.
- Assist with volunteer recognition and retention initiatives, including fundraising activities.
- Support outreach and recruitment efforts by participating in community presentations or information sessions when needed.
Qualifications:
- Strong facilitation and public speaking skills, with the ability to engage diverse groups of learners.
- A minimum of two years of relevant experience and a bachelors degree, or an equivalent combination of experience and education. Marketing, outreach, or recruitment experience preferred.
- Experience in training, education, child welfare, social work, or related field preferred.
- Knowledge of foster care, child advocacy, and trauma-informed practices highly desirable.
- Ability to adapt curriculum and training approaches to meet varied learning needs.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple training schedules.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and virtual training platforms (e.g., Zoom, Teams).
- Passion for CASAs mission and commitment to the well-being of children in foster care.
- Must be 21 years old, pass background checks, and remain in good standing for the duration of employment.
