About the position

We're looking for a seasoned Backend Engineer to lead architecture and development of scalable, intelligent systems. In this role, you'll design and build APIs and distributed systems in Python/Django, manage async workflows with Celery, and deploy production-grade services on AWS. You'll also contribute to AI-powered features using tools like OpenAI, LangChain, and vector databases.

Requirements

• Lead backend architecture and development - Design and build scalable APIs, services, and async systems using Python, Django and Celery
• Own infrastructure and deployment - Manage and optimize AWS environments (EC2, ECS, Lambda, RDS) and maintain reliable CI/CD pipelines
• Develop intelligent, AI-powered features - Integrate tools like OpenAI, LangChain, and vector databases to deliver production-grade AI functionality
• Develop async processing systems and distributed task queues
• Integrate AI capabilities using OpenAI, LangChain, or vector databases
• Lead and mentor junior engineers through code reviews and technical guidance
• Build CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Bitbucket, Jenkins)
• Write clean, tested, and maintainable code
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and help drive technical strategy

Experience

• 5+ years of deep backend development experience
• MUST be a US Citizen (or Green Card Holder) and eligible to obtain US government clearance (background check required)
• Expert in Python/Django with focus on performance and scalability
• Skilled in Celery and async task processing
• Proficient in AWS infrastructure and cloud management
• Experience designing and deploying AI features using LLMs, LangChain, and RAG pipelines
• Hands-on expertise deploying, scaling and monitoring AI/ML models in production
• Strong CI/CD experience (GitHub Actions, Bitbucket, Jenkins)
• Familiar with observability tools (Sentry, Prometheus, etc.)
• Knowledge of microservices and event-driven architectures
• Experienced building systems and processes from scratch
• Background in startup and fast-paced environments
• Contributions to open source or technical writing

Highly Preferred

• Implemented security compliance, both for enterprise or for US Government projects
• Has a current US Government security clearance
