Associate Attorney - Estate Planning

2026-01-23     Evermore Law Group     all cities,AK
Description:

Description

This role is designed for an attorney in the early stages of their career who wants hands-on experience in estate planning within a relationship-driven, growth-oriented firm. The Associate Attorney will work closely with the firm's owner and support team while progressively taking on greater responsibility for client matters.

The role will be a hybrid position (mix of work from home/remote work and in-person).

The associate will participate in and lead client-facing meetings, including initial consultations, estate plan design meetings, and signing meetings. You will help guide clients through thoughtful decision-making, explain legal concepts in clear and approachable language, and ensure clients feel supported and informed throughout the process.

The role includes drafting and reviewing estate planning documents, client follow-up, and collaboration with the Client Services Coordinator and legal support staff to ensure a smooth, high-touch client experience. Associates are expected to be responsive, organized, and proactive in maintaining ongoing client relationships, including plan updates and follow-ups as clients' lives evolve.

This role goes beyond document preparation. The Associate Attorney will learn how to identify planning opportunities, spot issues before they become problems, and support long-term client relationships rather than one-time transactions.

Associates are also expected to participate in business development in a supported and authentic way. This includes building referral relationships, attending and participating in events, contributing to educational content or workshops, and developing their own book of business over time. Training and mentorship are provided, but comfort with relationship-building and a growth mindset are essential.

This position is ideal for an attorney who is people-oriented, eager to learn, open to feedback, and interested in growing with a modern law firm over the long term. This role is not expected to come in knowing everything. We are committed to training the right candidate who shares our values and long-term vision.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Coachability and humility - open to ongoing training and feedback
  • Team-oriented mindset - prioritizes collaboration with staff (CSC, assistant, etc.) and values systems over ego.
  • Heart-centered communicator - empathetic listener who builds trust and emotional connection with clients and their families.
  • Mission alignment - genuinely believes in proactive, relationship-based legal planning rather than transactional work.
  • Growth-driven - enjoys business development, nurturing referral partner relationships, and representing the firm in the community.
  • Integrity and loyalty - sees long-term career potential within Evermore Law Group; seeks mentorship and growth rather than independence.
  • Comfort with discomfort - adaptable under pressure; can handle difficult conversations with kindness and confidence.
  • Business-minded spirit without ego - motivated by shared success rather than ownership.
  • Warm, personable, and curious - enjoys connecting with people from all walks of life.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and committed to follow-through.
  • Emotionally intelligent - balances professionalism with empathy.
  • Resilient - able to pivot and stay composed when plans change.
  • Self-starter - takes ownership of results while respecting firm systems.

HOW TO KNOW IF THIS ROLE IS RIGHT FOR YOU

This role is ideal for an attorney who is looking for more than just their next job. We are seeking someone who wants a long-term professional home, values mentorship, and is excited to grow within a firm.

The ideal candidate believes legal work should be proactive, relationship-based, and deeply client-centered. You care about impact, about helping families make thoughtful decisions that protect what matters most to them, and you want the time and structure to do that work well.

You are motivated by growth and learning, welcome feedback, and want to develop both your legal skills and your confidence as a trusted advisor. You're energized by client interaction, comfortable being visible, and interested in building meaningful relationships with clients, referral partners, and your team.

This role is a strong fit for someone who wants to grow with the firm, contribute to its success, and build a career that includes mentorship, collaboration, and shared wins. If you are looking for stability, purpose, and the opportunity to make a real difference in clients' lives while also building a sustainable, fulfilling legal career, this may be the right place for you.

The role is eligible for monthly and quarterly performance-based bonuses tied to individual contributions and the firm's overall financial goals. We offer a benefits package, including generous/flexible PTO and a monthly wellness stipend that can be applied toward individual health insurance coverage. Additional benefits are provided and will be discussed in more detail during the hiring process. The candidate selected for this role must complete a 90-day onboarding and training period, after which eligibility is active for PTO, bonus structure, and benefits.

Responsibilities

• Leading client meetings (initial consultation, plan design, plan signing, plan reviews, etc)
• Drafting + reviewing estate planning documents
• Managing client communication and follow-up
• Collaborating with the internal team
• Moving matters through the workflow
• Using CRM and drafting platforms
• Meeting KPIs
• Proven ability (or willingness to learn how) to generate and nurture leads, including through educational events, networking, and partner collaboration
• Enthusiastic about public speaking, workshops, and representing the firm at community or referral events
• Values long-term relationships with clients - not just "closing the file."
• Familiar with sales psychology in professional services (or open to training on the enrollment conversation process we use)

Qualifications

• Licensed in Illinois and in good standing with the ARDC. A plus if also licensed in WI, IN, or MI.
• 1-3 years of estate planning experience, ideally including drafting of wills, trusts, and powers of attorney under Illinois law
• Experience with client meetings - comfortable presenting legal concepts in simple, compassionate language
• Spanish fluency (professional proficiency) strongly preferred
• Understanding of basic tax implications (estate tax, gift tax, and income tax related to trusts) is helpful but not required
