About Our School

Sanford High School is located in York County in southern Maine 45 minutes south of Portland and less than 2 hours north of Boston. We are veryproud of our state-of-the-art, 360,000 square foot facility that intertwines High School and Vocational programming and includes a Performing Arts Center and athletic complex. We serve over 1,100 students in grades nine through twelve, with a growingly diverse student population that reflects our community. Sanford High School operates on a semester block schedule and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges (NEASC) and the Maine State Department of Education. Sanford High School's Program of Studies offers a comprehensive curriculum of approximately 150 courses and 25 Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs. Our mission is to cultivate students' potential by providing diverse coursework and hands-on learning opportunities, to encourage students to find focus and direction in their learning experiences. About The Position

Sanford High School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Attendance/Virtual Learning Coordinator to fill a newly created, strategically vital role within our school community. This is a teaching position that combines two critical functions - attendance intervention and academic credit recovery - into one innovative role designed to re-engage students, restore school culture, and ensure every student has a pathway to graduation.

Key Responsibilities

Attendance & Truancy Intervention

  • Monitor and track daily attendance across the high school population
  • Track tardies and class cuts school-wide, investigate patterns, and assign appropriate consequences in accordance with the student handbook and school discipline policy
  • Communicate tardy and class cut data regularly to administrators, teachers, and the Principal to ensure consistent accountability across the building
  • Implement State of Maine truancy protocols and maintain compliance with Maine truancy law
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with students to build trusting relationships and address attendance concerns
  • Reach out to parents and guardians via phone and email regarding absences and truancy concerns
  • Conduct home visits with the Student Resource Officer to address chronic absenteeism
  • Identify students in need of additional support and needing of DHHS referrals with School Counseling
  • Collaborate with school counselors specifically around graduation pathway planning - helping students who are off-track identify scheduling adjustments, credit recovery options, or alternative educational routes that lead to a diploma
  • Refer students to the Student Assistance Team (SAT) and attend weekly SAT meetings
  • Maintain detailed digital records of all attendance-related communications in Infinite Campus
  • Work to restore a culture of positive behavioral expectations throughout the school
Academic Intervention & Credit Recovery
  • Lead implementation and daily management of the school's online credit recovery platform with the Student Success Center
  • Guide students through multiple credit-earning pathways including Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs), work-study credits, and online courseware
  • Develop individualized academic recovery plans for students at risk of not graduating on time
  • Coordinate with the ELO Coordinator at Sanford Regional Technical Center (SRTC) on expanded learning opportunities
Career Planning & Community Partnerships
  • Connect students with job shadowing, internships, and community-based learning experiences
  • Build and maintain relationships with local employers and community organizations
  • Support students in developing post-graduation transition plans
Required Qualifications
  • Maine State Teaching Certificate (Required - this is a teaching contract position)
  • State of Maine Truancy Laws Knowledge of and ability to work within
  • Extended Learning Opportunities (ELOs) Familiarity with as defined by Maine DOE
  • Experience with or ability to quickly learn online high school credit recovery platforms (e.g., Edgenuity, Odysseyware, or similar)
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with students, families, and community partners
  • Ability to maintain detailed records and communicate data clearly to school leadership
  • Comfort with administering and documenting student discipline in a fair and consistent manner
Preferred Qualifications
  • Administrative degree or coursework toward an administrative credential
  • Prior experience in an attendance, truancy, or student support role
  • Experience working with at-risk or chronically absent student populations
  • Familiarity with Infinite Campus student information system
  • Knowledge of Maine's Educational Disruption Diploma criteria and LD 628
